I poured hot butter into the bottom of an empty tin so it could go in the bin instead of setting hard in the sink’s drain. I tore stains off pizza boxes to put the unmarked cardboard in recycling. I checked labels for palm oil and went hungry. Somehow everything still turned slippery and grease-marked and rancid.
