Daily story, May 13, 2025

I had forgotten what little French I learned in school, so before we went I bought a tape. None of it was familiar, but that’s how forgetting goes. I got my tongue around it much better than I ever did in my lessons. I had more reason to learn, and I felt proud of myself. When we arrived, I could see in people’s faces that they didn’t understand a word. But they all did as I said.
