Only when the rain stopped did I realise that I should have tried to collect it. I didn’t have much by way of time, or materials, or expertise, but I should have tried. Instead, I had lain on my back and let it rinse the dust from me. I had opened my mouth wide and caught a few sweet drops. I should have been scrabbling in the dirt to preserve another mouthful or two, for when the rain stopped. But lying there, cool and wet and alive, I could not find a drop of regret in me.
